Great Wines for Friends and Family
Taste in wine, like so may other things, is a very personal, individual thing. This can make buying wine to serve at parties or to give as presents somewhat difficult. Here are three great wines that are sure to make great Christmas gifts.
Jacob’s Creek Pinot Grigio Twin Pickings
Including a light dash of Moscato for a subtle extra hint of sweetness, this lovely wine has a delightful aroma of pear and spice, closely followed by citrus fruits and apple. Refreshingly light at just 8%, it just a touch too sweet as an aperitif, but makes a great dessert wine. Although the Moscato Bianco somewhat masks the taste of the Pinot Grigio, the overall taste is definitely very pleasant. Available from Tesco at £7.49, this great Jacob’s Creek wine is definitely worth considering for someone who likes his/ her wine fairly sweet, but light.
Campo Viejo Reserva
This garnet ruby red coloured delight is a well rounded, flavour-filled wine with aromas of vanilla and ripe berries. The Campo Viejo Reserva’s intense, but smooth flavours of cherry; juicy ripe blackberries and black plum are finely balanced by the oaken characters of cloves and vanillin; coconut and pepper, providing a full, lingering and elegant finish. A little stronger at 13.2%, this delicious red is available from Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury’s Ocado at £11.79. Great for serving at parties, with food or as a gift, the Campo Viejo Reserva is worth every penny of its price.
Brancott Estate Pinot Noir
The ripened red cherry aromas of this deep ruby red wine are beautifully accentuated by spice and savoury highlights. Displaying ripe red fruits, silky tannins, toasty oak and subtle spice with good length (offering well balanced concentration and structure), the Brancott Estate Pinot Noir has a sweet, velvety approach. There is just a hint of sweetness to the palate, while the finish of this 13.2% wine is slightly spicy. Overall, this is a most delicious example of Brancott Estate Wines. Costing £12.39, it is available from Majestic, Tesco/ Tesco Wine and Waitrose.
